Sirius Star
If we look towards the southeast, we
will see the brightest star. The color are blue white. The star was already
known since the ancient civilizations in Egypt, China, and Greece. In Arabic,
the star known as “As-Syi’ra” and in modern astronomy is known as “Sirius”.
The
uniqueness of this star is a very bright light than the other stars. The
position of this star is under the first constellation Orion. Sometimes, we can
see the star although the sun had not sunk.
With
the naked eye, we would see the star as a single star with blue white light.
But, with sophisticated binocular can be seen that the stars is two stars are
close together. The biggest star is blue, that is can be seen with the naked
eye, called “Sirius A”. The second star is a small white star, called “Sirius
B”. That can be seen with sophisticated binocular. Sirius B is a dwarf star,
that is small but its mass is very large because Sirius B is consists of
neutron.
According
to calculations made by Harvard University, Ottawa, and Leicester, one round
star takes 49,9 years.
This
stars is mentioned in the Qur’an Surah An-Najm by name Syi’ra in two verses of
verse 49 and verse 9.
